WELCOME to the Digital Signal Processing: Building Information from Simple Sinusoidal Signals Seminar

On Monday the 29th of October 2018 from 6:45pm to 9:00pm, the 6th Savannah Science Seminar Presentation will be on "Digital Signal Processing: Building Information from Simple Sinusoidal Signals". Your presenters Kris Lynch, Dr. Joe Gavin, and Brian Cook and SSS Board Member and program facilitator Paul Taylor will be at the host site, Gulfstream RDC II here in Savannah Georgia.


1. Students must have some sort of photo ID with them (driver's license, student ID)
2. NO parents or teachers allowed to accompany due to security
3. Promptness - students need to be there NLT than 6:45pm for security guard check -in. The group will walk at 7pm to their room destination accompanied by SSS represenatives. Anyone not there by 7 will not be admitted and it will be counted as an absence



Brief OUTline:

* Time and Frequency Domain information in sinusoids
* Sampling theory for storing information on computers
* Bandpass filter design for analyzing signals
* Dual-Tone Modulation Frequencies for creating telephone tones

Brief Biography:

Kristopher Lynch
Kristopher Lynch is an Acoustics Engineer at Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. In 2002 he was employed at General Dynamics Electric Boat where he worked on nuclear submarines, doing acoustic testing and design, and going out to sea on the submarines for acoustic sea trials. In 2007, Kris was hired at Gulfstream to operate the newly built Acoustic Test Facility, where he does acoustic testing in a reverberation room and hemi-anechoic chamber. Kris designs and tests all types of materials and equipment that go on the aircraft to ensure that the interior it is quiet. Kris received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State in 2001, and received his Masters of Engineering degree in Acoustics from Penn State in 2013.

Dr Joe Gavin
Joe Gavin works in the preliminary design group at Gulfstream, conducting applied research on enabling technologies for a future supersonic business jet. This work, performed in collaboration with a team of passionate experts, seeks to enable supersonic flight over land without the traditional sonic boom that has led to flight restrictions for every other supersonic aircraft that's ever been built. Joe's past career was equally rewarding: measuring, understanding and sometimes mitigating the acoustic and electromagnetic signatures for U.S. Navy submarines.

Brian Cook
Brian Cook is the lead engineer for the Aero-Acoustics and Community Noise group at Gulfstream. His focus is on ensuring Gulfstream aircraft are quiet, and have a minimal noise impact on airport communities. Prior to joining Gulfstream, Brian worked on applied Aero-Acoustics R&D at the Georgia Tech Research Institute. In his free time, Brian enjoys running, CrossFit and playing percussion. Brian wishes he was more like Joe Gavin.


The following are directions for getting to the Seminar:
From the Downtown.

0. Gulfstream Research and Development Center Building II is located at 32 Innovation Drive, Savannah, GA 31407

1. Head west on W Bay St toward Pullen St for about 1.7 mi

2. Take the ramp onto GA-21 N/I-516 W for 1.0 mi

3. Continue onto GA-21 N and go 5.2 mi

4. Turn right onto Jimmy Deloach Pkwy for about 0.3 mi

5. Turn left to stay on Jimmy Deloach Pkwy and go 1.9 mi

6. Turn left onto Crossroads Pkwy and go 0.6 mi

7. Turn left onto Innovation Dr

8. RDC II is the second building on the left. The entrance is in the middle of the building. Security badges will be issued by Gulfstream Security at this point. Your SSS Board Member representatives will be there to kick off the event.
